Gran Passione Rosso 2025

Introduction

This red wine originates from Italy, produced in the Veneto region under the Veneto IGT appellation. Gran Passione was founded in 1928 by Carlo Botter, and the winery has since grown into a thriving producer managed by the Botter family. The winemaking philosophy centres on honouring the traditions of the land, specifically using the 'appassimento' method. This ancient technique involves naturally drying the grapes on the vine for approximately 15 days, which causes about 50% of their weight to vaporise, resulting in a unique concentration of sugars and flavours.

Wine Description

The Gran Passione Rosso displays an intense purple or deep red colour that may move towards shades of amber with ageing. The nose is instantly appealing, offering abundant aromas of black cherry, plum, and blackberry, layered with spicy notes of vanilla, clove, and toasted mocha. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and solid in structure, delivering a rich core of ripe dark fruits, chocolate, and fresh tobacco leaf. It is characterized by a fine balance between soft, integrated tannins and fresh acidity, leading to a long finish with savoury mineral tones and a hint of warm spice. The varietal composition is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Corvina. The ABV is typically between 14% and 14.2%. While not certified organic, the wine is noted as being vegan-friendly. The optimal drinking window is generally up to 4 years from the vintage.
